The southern section of the Meißner 8 cycle route leads along paths worth riding through romantic valleys and past numerous mills with history and refreshment stops.

The southern part of the Meissen 8 also offers many sights worth seeing and driving in the Meissen region. From the bus station on the right bank of the Elbe, the tour leads directly across the Elbe and offers a magnificent view of the historic old town.

On the way out of the city, the cycle route follows the Triebischtal valley until the first mills become visible. These are important historical witnesses to the region; there were originally 53 water mills along the Triebisch.

Today they serve different purposes, some of them still grinding grain. Like the first one on the left-hand side of the tour - the spruce mill, which also has its own mill yard store where you can buy local produce.

Other mills serve as technical museums, such as the Mittelmühle in Garsebach, which is located along the route, or are used as restaurants, such as the neighboring Barthmühle. Many of these mills have joined together in an association, so those interested can find out more beforehand at http://www.muehlen-im-triebischtal.de/.

The route continues on relaxed cycle paths without traffic along the course of the "Kleine Triebisch" river. Lots of greenery all around characterizes the ride and again and again the view falls on other historic mills, some of which are privately used and have been renovated with great attention to detail.

In Taubenheim, you can explore the former manor house and castle as well as the charming village church. You can also take a break for coffee and cake or buy regional products in the farm store and café of the "Pfarrgut Taubenheim". After the village, the route becomes more hilly, but the views over the nearby region are well worth it. In Sora, the beautiful church awaits, often surrounded by alpacas grazing.

The last mill discovery, the Neudeckmühle, can be seen after a descent to the "Wilde Sau" river - it is worth making a detour to the beer garden here at the weekend, as a steep ramp then follows uphill again.

Afterwards, however, the route rolls downhill again with panoramic views of the Elbe valley to finally reach the Elbe cycle path. The tour then follows this to the left of the Elbe back to Meißen, the starting point of the circular route, where various restaurants and cafés offer refreshments.

Another worthwhile cycle tour takes you along the northern part of the Meissen 8.

Directions

The route starts in Meißen on the Elbe cycle path on the right bank of the Elbe (parking lot) and leads straight on from Plangasse to Dresdner Straße. Turn left here and after approx. 130 m turn directly left again to cross the railroad and pedestrian bridge onto the left Elbe cycle path.

Here the route continues straight ahead across Obergasse and then right onto Plossenweg. From there, turn left towards Neumarkt. At the Nicolaikirche church, which will soon be visible, turn left again at the third junction onto Wettinstraße and then follow the Triebisch river through the Triebischtal valley until you leave Meißen behind you. Cross the village of Garsebach, then turn left over the bridge and immediately right again over another small cycle bridge. Now follow the narrow path of the former narrow-gauge railway line to Taubenheim. In the village, first turn right onto the main road and then left onto the cycle path after approx. 50 meters. The path leads up and down to Sora, where you first turn right shortly after the church, then turn left again after approx. 120 m, cross the main road and continue straight ahead onto Klipphausener/Soraer Straße.

In the following village of Klipphausen, continue to the traffic circle, which you leave at the third exit onto Meißner Straße. Keep left at the next pond and then follow the cycle path until it bends to the right onto Neudeckmühlenweg.

After the following ride through the forest, the route turns right through the Neudeckmühle mill and then climbs steeply. After another ride across the fields, turn left at the next junction after Kleinschönberg and roll down through the forest towards the Elbe valley to Constappel, where the tour turns right again at the first opportunity onto Wildberger Allee and leads to Wildberg. Turn left again there, then after 20 meters turn right onto Cossebauder Straße, but leave it again immediately on the Alte Dorfstraße to the left to the Elbe cycle path.

Turn left again here in the direction of Meißen and then cycle along the Elbe cycle path to Meißen. The railroad bridge now leads back over the Elbe to the starting point on the right bank of the Elbe (Elbe parking lot).
