On the branch canal, which connects Osnabrück to the Mittelland Canal, has always been one of the city’s economic centers. In the “Museum of Industrial Culture,” historic machines recall bygone times and add a touch of nostalgia mixed with the scent of hard work. 

But there is more: noble residences and old mills, a zoo and the Rubbenbruch Lake, strawberry fields and forests, even megalithic graves can be found in Osnabrück and its immediate surroundings. The peace center named after him commemorates the life and work of the internationally renowned author and explores the major theme of “war and peace” in all its facets in changing special exhibitions.
