Path to Industrial Culture Zwickau

The town center of Zwickau was already established at the beginning of the 13th century and still forms the historic center today.

2. Citizens' School – Today: Office Building
The building is considered the most significant classical-style building in the city and originally served as a citizens' school.

3. Imperial Post/Telegraph Office – Today: Judicial Building
The building was erected in 1883 in the Neo-Renaissance style.

4. Wolf's Villa – Today: Villa Mocc, Office Building
The villa was the result of an architectural competition and home of the Zwickau manufacturer Paul Wolf.

5. Bank Building
Instead of a planned tavern, a bank building was erected here in 1941.

6. Engineering School – today Tax Office
The engineering school was used to train technical specialists and was converted to a tax office in 2004.

7. King Albert Museum – today ART COLLECTIONS ZWICKAU
Today the building houses the Art Collections Zwickau, the Max Pechstein Museum, the City Archive, and the Council School Library.

8. Royal Teachers' Seminar – today Käthe Kollwitz High School
As an important example of reform architecture, it also features elements of moderate Art Nouveau.

9. Pestalozzi School
As one of the most modern schools of its time, it is the only school in Saxony built in the Bauhaus style.

10. Audi Works – today August Horch Museum
Here August Horch founded the Audi automobile brand in 1909. Today, the museum tells the history of automobile manufacturing in Zwickau.

11. Bobinet Lace Weaving R. Kant KG – partial use by THW
The building still houses the partly functional machinery of the former lace weaving factory.

12. Tram Depot
The building, built in 1925, still serves as the depot for Zwickau's tram traffic.

13. Municipal Cattle/Slaughterhouse – Today: parking lot, commercial use
When it opened in 1894, the slaughterhouse was considered one of the most modern in Germany.

14. Schlobig Bath/Treatment Facility – Today Johannisbad
The traditional building was used as a bathing and treatment facility and reopened as Johannisbad in 2000.

15. Saxon Brush and Button Machine Works GmbH – today Climbing Hall Knopffabrik, residential
The factory was built around 1890 and today houses apartments and a climbing and bouldering hall.

16. Gasometer – Today: Event Center
Gas was produced here until 1900. After renovation in 2000, it is now used for cultural events.

17. Lower Grain House – Today: City Library
The storage building is considered the largest and most elaborately constructed medieval grain house in Saxony.

18. Zwickau Club Brewery – Today: Mauritius Brewery
The brewery was built in 1859 by decision of the Zwickau Brewery Club.
