Loop route through the Moritzburg pond landscape

Saxony's princes were avid hunters of self-hunted game. Countless trophies and ubiquitous hunting and game motifs, admired in Moritzburg Hunting Lodge, testify to this. Long before August the Strong built the baroque hunting lodge here, Duke Georg the Bearded ordered the drainage of the former swamp area around it in the 15th century. Ponds, meadows, forests, fields, views, and idyllic resting spots make up the charm of this over 13 km long marked hike through the picturesque Moritzburg cultural landscape.

Directions

The starting point of the hike is the Kalkreuther Straße car park at Schlossteich-West. On the pond path to Moritzburg Castle Park, go left along the castle park wall around the park before the castle park. About 200 meters past the park, follow the path into the trail corridor marked with Allee VIII to the Hellhaus. The Hellhaus, with its 8 radiating trail corridors, was a central point for controlling the hunting party during the electoral hunting. Walk clockwise around the Hellhaus. Use Allee IV to the end. On the crossing path, the hike leads to the left. After about 300 meters, we recommend a short detour for bird watching at Frauenteich. Follow the path to Kalkreuther Straße. Walk about 400 meters to the right on Kalkreuther Straße past Mittelteich. After the Bauditz nursery, turn left onto Alte 2 path. Follow the path for about 2 kilometers. Before the Lower Altenteich, turn right onto the X path at a knobby signpost. Follow the well-developed forest path for over 1.3 kilometers to a meadow. Before continuing left on the hiking trail, we recommend a detour to the rest area at Köckritzteich. Past Furtteich, the hike leads through a pond-meadow area. Turn left before Neuteich and immediately right again. Turn left before the forest bungalow settlement and follow the path to Heidehofteich. Just before Heidehofteich, a narrow path leads left around the pond, past the Diakonie Rehabilitation Clinic, and crosses the access road into the forest. After 500 meters on a forest path, reach the F path and walk 100 m to the right to a fork where you turn left onto the LW path and then the Sternweg. In front of the Upper Altenteich is an idyllic rest spot. Between Upper and Lower Altenteich, cross the dam, then left onto the W path, and before the rest hut, right onto the X path. You reach the access to Sophienteich for a detour. After returning to the X path, turn left onto the Steinerner Weg. Then you have reached your starting point again.
