- Start: Radebeul-Ost station
- Destination: Moritzburg train station/ Moritzburg Castle
Your hike begins at Radebeul-Ost railroad station. From there, the trail leads you through the streets of Radebeul, past historic buildings, the tourist information office, the Karl May playground and through the idyllic Karl May Grove. The Karl May Museum is directly on your route. After around 2.0 kilometers and a 32-minute walk, you will reach the foot of the vineyards.
You then ascend into the wine-growing landscape of the Lößnitz slopes. The route runs along Hoflößnitzstraße and past the Hoflößnitz winery and wine museum, rewarding you with magnificent views before descending into the Lößnitzgrund.
The cool, shady atmosphere of the valley makes this section particularly pleasant on warm days. The tracks of the Lößnitzgrundbahn accompany the hiking trail here. With a bit of luck, you will see the historic narrow-gauge railroad from 1884 pass by. In the past, a large number of mills were in operation along the Lößnitzbach stream, which were later transformed into excursion restaurants. The Lößnitzgrund became a popular recreational area for those seeking relaxation. The Bilz-Wellenbad swimming pool, the annual Karl May Festival and a number of restaurants are reminders of this. At the end of the valley, the LößnitzPfad joins the Saxon Wine Hiking Trail and the Bilz Hiking Trail. These traditional trails combine exercise, experiencing nature, traditional viticulture and enjoyment.
You continue through the natural landscape towards Moritzburg. The trail takes you along the Dippelsdorf pond, through the undulating landscape of small hills near Moritzburg and finally to Moritzburg Castle, where the hike ends.
The Lößnitzpfad is accessible throughout and signposted in both directions. Information posts along the route explain the special features of the landscape and the sights.
Tip: Take the Lößnitzgrundbahn back to the starting point of the hike.
Please note: due to construction work in the Lößnitzgrund area, the Lößnitz Trail is currently only accessible via a signposted detour.
