Exciting route through an exceptional forest area. Hikers will not encounter exotic animals in this primeval forest. However, wandering through the landscape, which has been able to develop without human influence for over 10 years, will make every hiker curious to return. Short but demanding route with hilly sections and narrow paths.

Attention: in some sections, walking the route may be made difficult by fallen trees in the primeval forest area.

The primeval forest route runs through the southern part of the overall 1,011 ha "Primeval Forest at the City Gates." Since 2002, this area has been allowed to develop largely without human influence and has been released from forestry to become a natural ecosystem. The path leads through a fascinating natural experience area and is characterized by constantly changing forest landscapes: lively bubbling streams, small forest lakes, uprooted trees, marshy swamp landscapes, and an attractive relief – the increasingly adventurous and natural terrain is where the Primeval Forest Route winds through, offering a varied hiking pleasure especially for younger explorers. A green oasis in an intensively used environment, right on the doorstep of Saarbrücken.

The recommended start and endpoint is the Forsthaus Neuhaus with the NABU forest experience center. Alternatively, access is possible from the Saarbahn Heinrichshaus stop via a 300 m long access path.
