- Start: Saarbrücken towpath/Saar cycle route
- Destination: Blieskastel Paradeplatz
The first stage of the route is characterized by the German-French border area and the rivers Saar and Blies, which you mostly follow. You can look forward to a relaxed ride through the beautiful river meadows, which entice you with great scenery and a fairly flat course. A first stop is recommended in Sarreguemines. The beautiful town on the Saar with its magnificent Art Nouveau buildings is definitely worth a visit. It gets especially idyllic in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Bliesgau, which you pass through on the way to the stage destination Blieskastel. Here, you cycle for long stretches on a rail trail, away from car traffic in the midst of beautiful nature, where storks feel particularly comfortable.
In the wonderful old town of Blieskastel, you can treat yourself to a delicious ice cream or a hearty dinner at the market square before resting in one of the many accommodations (one of which is even awarded the ADFC “Bed+Bike” seal). Both Saarbrücken and Blieskastel (Blieskastel Lautzenkirchen station) have train connections and are easily accessible, so you can relax on your way back to the starting point in Saarbrücken and can also ride the route individually.
