Family-friendly circular hike through the Trieb Valley, past the Loreley Rock, the dam with the plunge pool, and the impressive Elstertal Bridge

In the middle of the Vogtland Switzerland lies the Pöhl reservoir, one of Saxony's largest reservoirs. Around the so-called "Vogtland Sea" stretches a gently rolling low mountain landscape with beautiful hiking trails and interesting excursion destinations.

On the 4.3 km hike through the Trieb Valley, one discovers a picturesque floodplain landscape, the rugged Loreley Rock with a beautiful view of the Trieb Valley, and the Elstertal Bridge. For the technically easy path, hikers should allow about 1.5 hours.

Attention:

  • currently, the stairs to the Loreley Rock are closed for safety reasons!
  • The path over the Elstertal Bridge is closed until 2025!

Note: Impairment of hiking trails in the area of the Elstertal Bridge and Barthmühle

Please inform yourself before your hike about possible impairments or alternative routes.

Directions

We start our route at Jocketa station. From there, we hike westward through a forested area until we reach the Barthmühle stop. There, we turn left and walk along the Elster Riverside Path to the Elstertal Bridge. About 100 m past the bridge, we cross the railway tracks and turn left into the Trieb Valley at the mouth of the Trieb into the Elster.

On the Vogtland Panorama Trail, the route now continues east along the Trieb; those interested can include the viewpoint on the Loreley Rock. Then it goes initially north and in a loop back south to the bridge below the dam. Ahead lies the Pöhl reservoir, which we should take a detour to on hot summer days. Past the Old Rampart, we proceed to the Pyramid Meadow, where covered seating invites you to linger. We cross the Trieb on the Pyramid Bridge, walk a bit southward along the river course back, and then return to Jocketa.

Attention: currently, the stairs to the Loreley Rock are closed for safety reasons!
