The 3rd stage, about 36 km, of the Via Sacra cycling pilgrimage route leads from Löbau via Bernstadt auf dem Eigen to Görlitz.

Löbau was the venue of the powerful Upper Lusatian Six-City Alliance founded in 1346, which also included Kamenz, Bautzen, Görlitz, Zittau, and Lauban (Polish Luban). The landmark of the city is the unique cast-iron Friedrich-August Tower on Löbauer Berg (450 m) in Europe.

On the northern outskirts of the city, a visit to the "Haus Schminke", which Hans Scharoun designed for the family of the noodle manufacturer Fritz Schminke, is worthwile. The residential building, lovingly called "Nudeldampfer" by the locals of Löbau, is considered one of the most important buildings of classical modernism. Overnight stays on site are also possible. The beautiful market square with the imposing town hall and the nearby St. Nicholas Church from the 13th century are also very impressive.

Directions

In Jauernick-Buschbach, a detour to the Kreuzberg with its prehistoric hillfort and a magnificent view of Berzdorfer Lake as well as the Riesen, Isar, and Zittau mountain ranges is worthwhile. The collegiate church of St. Wenceslaus, surrounded by a defensive wall, dates back to the 10th century and is considered the oldest in Upper Lusatia. It belongs to the Catholic diocese of Görlitz, which maintains the St. Wenceslaus Foundation as an educational institution below the church.
