Ausstellung "Studieren, Probieren, Experimentieren"

Exhibition

Interactive exhibition for the whole family

It is well documented that people hunted in the Stone Age using arrows with tips made of flint. But how were these tips made, and what tools were used in the process?

For over 20 years, the University of Hamburg has been conducting Experimental Archaeology in the field of Prehistoric and Early Historic Archaeology. A part of this practical research takes place in the Stone Age Park Dithmarschen in Albersdorf. The exhibition presents selected results from seminars since 2004, developed by students and lecturers.

Based on material remains, archaeology explores human history. To reconstruct the way of life of people, it does not only focus on excavations but also addresses the question of how all these finds were created. Since these methods have not been passed down, students attempt to replicate historical work through experiments and trials based on archaeological finds and evidence. The experiments are conducted in a reproducible manner and thoroughly documented. Practical skills from various disciplines are acquired in the process. The exhibition showcases selected results and objects that were produced during these experiments.

The exhibition in the Schwedenspeicher displays both the original and a replica and is accompanied by an extensive program. We warmly invite all families and interested individuals to try out and experiment for themselves!
