Church

The fieldstone church in Trebel, which dates back to the middle of the 12th century, has been frequently altered or added to over the years. However, the altar and organ have been preserved to this day.

The massive fieldstone church in Trebel is one of the oldest churches in the Lüneburg district. It was built in the middle of the 12th century by monks from the neighboring Altmark region. The building materials had to be laboriously brought in on horse-drawn carts from the surrounding area.

The church was not given its first tower until almost 500 years after it was built. However, this had to be demolished in 1750 due to dilapidation, so that craftsmen from the region finally erected the current tower on the west side of the building in 1753.

The interior of the church has also undergone several changes over the centuries. However, the altar, which dates back to 1717 and has a frontal painted in genuine ducat gold, and the organ by the famous master organ builder Johannes Stein, which the church received in 1777, have been preserved to this day.
