St. Andreas Kirche Ashausen

Church
From the old church to the new: the creation of the Ashausen church
Ashausen has always been a parish of Pattensen, and the church of St Gertrud there is one of the oldest sacred sites in the region. The church road from Ashausen to Pattensen stretched for around five kilometres. For church services, weddings, baptisms and funerals, the faithful had to make this journey there and back.

In order to accommodate the rapidly growing parish of St. Gertrud, two parishes were established on 1 October 1958.

On 8 April 1963, the concreting work for the new church began. The ceremonial laying of the foundation stone took place on 4 November of the same year, which was immortalised by a sandstone in the white wall behind the altar. Special documents are walled into this stone to commemorate this important day. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated on 5 November. One year later, on 30 November 1964, St Andrew's Day, the Ashausen church was consecrated. It bears the name of the first disciple of Jesus, St Andrew. His symbol, the diagonal cross, adorns the rear of the tower and the sound opening of the belfry.
