Half-day route through the Bliesgau Biosphere over the Glan-Blies cycle path and the western Bliesgau heights with cool forest passages and amazing panoramic views. The approximately 36 km long cycling route impresses with the contrasts of the gentle character of the Blies valley, the wooded ridges between the Blies valley and the Mandelbach valley, as well as the magnificent distant views south of Biesingen. The route is suitable not only for active cyclists but also for families with children who have some cycling experience.

The circular route is consistently marked as the Bliesgau cycle path and starts from the station in Blieskastel-Lautzkirchen heading towards the baroque town of Blieskastel on the Saarland cycle path. The initially flat route is easy to ride since the cycle path was an old railway track until 1991, which led through the idyllic valley landscape of the Blies in the Bliesgau. In 2000, it was converted into a cycle and hiking path and opened on May 1st. Along the route to the southernmost point, cyclists can find some stops in Blieskastel, Herbitzheim, and Gersheim. From Gersheim, the route continues directly to the European Cultural Park Bliesbruck-Reinheim, a cross-border archaeology park. Afterwards, there is a single significant climb from Reinheim of over 150 meters in elevation up to the ridge between the Blies valley and the Mandelbach valley. Once at the top, the route follows about 8 km through pleasantly cool forest, past the Katharinenhof golf course and Celtic burial mounds up to Hölschberg just before Biesingen. After a dream descent near Biesingen, you follow fruit orchard landscapes down into the “Long Valley,” along the forest edge and past horse paddocks. The village of Blieskastel-Alschbach in the valley follows after about 3 km. Here a detour to Gut Lindenfels with its organic farm shop and the forest café on the Alschbach hillside is worth it. At the end of the tour, cyclists need to be a bit careful as a road-adjacent cycle path from Alschbach to Lautzkirchen leads over the local road to the station in Lautzkirchen.
