Railway romance in idyllic landscape.

The Chemnitztal cycle route takes you directly from the city centre of Chemnitz into the wonderful nature of the Chemnitz valley. The approx. 24-kilometre route currently runs along the Chemnitz River as far as the Claußnitz district of Diethensdorf. Along the way, there are some witnesses to the former Chemnitztal railway to discover. A connection to Wechselburg and the Mulde cycle path is planned.

The Chemnitztal cycle route is a section of the Mulde-Chemnitz-Middle Mountain cycle path.

Explorer tips

  • Markersdorf: technical witnesses such as bridges and a tunnel through the massif on the Schusterstein, trips by diesel operation in the open observation carriage at the Markersdorf-Taura Museum Station (April to October, info: www.chemnitztalbahn.de), Markersdorf Nature Trail, “giant kettles” (huge rock formations as witnesses to the last ice age)
  • Burgstädt: Wettinhain with Taurastein tower, local history museum, fire brigade museum, Dr. Böttger Historical Medical Practice Museum, Herrenhaide nature conservation station, leisure pool with sauna area somewhat off the route
