Directions
The path leads you to the start along the railway line of the Schönheide museum railway - one of the oldest and most beautiful narrow-gauge steam railways in Saxony. Start your hike coordinated with the schedule of the Advent rides and experience the steam train up close or travel part of the route by train.
Your hike then continues through the magnificent, wintry low mountain landscape of the Vogtland - Erzgebirge Nature Park to Stützengrün. Let yourself be enchanted already by the fairy-tale exterior of the Christmas land. Inside you will discover one of the largest exhibitions of Ore Mountain handicraft tradition in the region.
The route then continues over cozy forest and field paths to Rothenkirchen. Every year on the Advent weekends, the elf days at the Kuhnert woodturning workshop with open workshop, crafting, and Christmas treats attract many visitors. Here you have the opportunity to watch turners and carvers over the shoulder, craft yourself, or enjoy a small regional snack.
Continue your hike very relaxed towards Wernesgrün. Here you have the option to take a detour to the Wernesgrüner brewery estate and visit the brewery and/or horse stables.
Now take a moderate descent along the Kuhberg base path, through the beautiful forest up until you reach the highest point of the route, the 795m high Kuhberg. A climb up the Prince George Tower promises, depending on weather conditions, a beautiful panoramic view over the wintry snowy region.
On the last stage, it's almost always downhill through the forest and across the field until you reach the starting point again.
This route offers you impressive views and panoramas of the Christmas illuminated towns of Schönheide, Stützengrün, Wernesgrün, and Rothenkirchen.

This route is recommended during the Advent weekends. On these dates, the museum railway's Advent rides and the elf days at Kuhnert usually take place every year.
Tip: The first section of the route from Schönheide to Stützengrün can optionally also be traveled by the museum railway. A special attraction!
