Nature and the historical heritage on one side, the active cultural life and the special recreational facilities on the other side offer a wealth of opportunities to discover the unique charm of the Hochwald. Wadern looks back on a eventful history shaped by the rule of Dagstuhl. Traces of the knight and count times are e.g. the castle ruins and Dagstuhl Castle, which have become attractions for both big and small history enthusiasts. Wadern is the major shopping, trade and service center in the Hochwald. The center of urban life is the market square, where an extensive cultural program is offered in the summer. Despite all urban attributes, Wadern has retained its rural charm in a varied low mountain landscape.
This e-bike round leads from the starting point at the market square in Wadern into the charming Löstertal. In Rathen, the Eisbach llamas await a short visit. From here, the route goes via Oberlöstern up to the Gallo-Roman monumental burial mounds. A truly mystical place in a dreamlike landscape. On the ridgeline between Löstertal and Wadrilltal lie the witnesses of the ancient past: two rare Gallo-Roman burial mounds that were reconstructed in 2000/2001. From this burial site of a noble landowner from the 2nd century AD, the view stretches far across the countryside. The path now leads via Wadrill, where a detour to the Hochwald-Alm is worthwhile, to Reidelbach. Above the village is the hiking hut at the Weinburg, a nice rest stop with a wide view over the Hochwald. The path continues via Wedern and Morscholz to the Noswendeler See with its small leisure center. An absolute highlight is the hospitality organized by the local heritage and tourism association at the lake—especially on Sundays when the large cake buffet is laid out. After a ride through meadows and fields, the next stage destination is Nunkirchen. Here await the Forsthof and the wildlife enclosure with a nice beer garden and the golf park Weiherhof with a scenic restaurant terrace. Directly behind the wildlife enclosure, one of our gourmet stations with regional products invites you to rest.
Along the young Prims River, the route then goes via Büschfeld and Bardenbach to Dagstuhl Castle with its worth-seeing castle chapel and the castle garden of the project "Gardens without Borders." The castle ruin located uphill still conveys an authentic medieval atmosphere today. The round ends again at the market square. Various enjoyable dining options round off this route.
