Family Bike Ride: A Short Ride to the Glider Airfield

This short loop to the Geitau glider airfield offers a relaxing ride along quiet roads and trails, past wooded areas and with views of the mountain scenery between Bayrischzell and Fischbachau. The starting point is the Seeberg hiking parking lot. From there, follow Seebergstraße, keeping an eye on the bike signs toward Geitau, and cross the Alpbach.

In Geitau, leave the marked bike route and keep left to reach the glider airfield. It’s worth stopping here to watch the gliders take off and land—the surrounding streets are also closed to car traffic, ensuring a pleasant and safe experience. If you’d like to extend the tour, you can take a short detour to the Storrhof, where carriage rides are offered by appointment.

The return route turns left off the path along the glider airfield and continues on the bike path until you rejoin the original route and ride back to the starting point at the Seeberg parking lot. For those who’d like to end the day with a special experience, a detour to the valley station in Osterhofen is a great option—take the cable car up to the Wendelstein.
