The legends about the deeds of Georg Kresse, his hideouts from the time of the Thirty Years' War, and stories about them have been preserved in the Thuringian Vogtland. Love, hate, despair, and longing for justice characterized the life of the legendary peasant general. On developed and well-signposted hiking trails, there are plenty of adventures, history, and nature.

The path begins in Auma, the temporary residence and place of death of Georg Kresse. In the village church of Piesegitz, Kresse was married to his wife Anna Pissel. Shortly before Staitz, the path leads into the Weidatal valley to the historic Bermich mill and continues past the Erz mill near Döhlen to Dörtendorf. Here, in the birthplace of the peasant general, is the Kressestube and the Kresse monument under the care of the “Georg Kresse Home Association” e.V.

The path continues via the forest tavern in the Triebetal (Kresse cave) to the Reichenfels castle ruins near Hohenleuben. Here, after approx. 20 km, a rest should be taken. The path then leads past the Hohenleuben reservoir over Hain, Lunzig, Kühdorf, Wildetaube, Tschirma and Neugernsdorf. Arriving at the destination – the historic Anger village of Nitschareuth – the hiker can visit the unique listed village ensemble with its historic peasant museum. You can also refresh yourself in the museum room.
