The large rectangular market square in Auma is a good starting point for a historical route through the town.

The oldest buildings today on its longitudinal sides - such as the old town hall and the opposite townhouses Markt 2 and 12 - were rebuilt after the great town fire of 1790. This had broken out on Ascension Day that year in a house near the Kreuztor and had destroyed large parts of the buildings, including 166 residential houses, the town church, deaconry, school, town hall, brewery and prison, as the greatest catastrophe in the town's history.

The postal milestone and the Church of Our Lady are cultural sights in the town centre. The Kesselsee and the school park are also recommended.
