Opened for tourist use in 2006, Markkleeberger See now offers a wide range of recreational activities. Besides action-packed whitewater fun at the well-known Kanupark Markkleeberg, sailing, diving, surfing or climbing are also possible, as well as relaxing by swimming in crystal-clear water or taking a boat trip. Part of the route runs along the 14 km long geopark path, whose 16 information points have their center at the Stone Experience Area near the Kanupark lock.

Directions
The circular path starts at the Markkleeberger lakeside promenade. This is where you can start a boat trip. The path leads from the lakeside promenade to the lower lakeside path, always keeping the lake in view on the right side. Especially at sunset, there are great views of the lake, facing the sun. On the straight path heading south, the route passes the Markkleeberg geopark with several stations. After the Auenhainer beach, the Kanupark Markkleeberg comes into sight. It is passed uphill via the whitewater bend path and continued to the right at the junction Zum Wildwasser. On your left side is the impressive and hard-to-miss mining technology park. Before crossing the Störmthaler canal, the Stone Experience Area is on the left side. The route continues on the path Zum Wildwasser until a right turn leads to An der Crostewitzer Höhe. You are now at Crostewitzer Höhe, passing an information board on your left and finally a bison pasture. The path turns right towards Zur Göselmündung and again right to the west side of Markkleeberger See. Turning right again, you now come to the final straight to the Markkleeberger See adventure playground, the Markkleeberg-Ost beach, and finally back to the lakeside promenade. The circular hiking trail is paved and can be comfortably walked.
