Directions

From the spa town of Gohrisch, the Muselweg, the Jagdsteig, the Königsweg and the Alte Schulweg lead you to Pfaffendorf. You climb the Pfaffenstein through the narrow eye of a needle, a steep ascent over wooden and iron steps. You hike down via the Klammweg towards Quirl. At the Pfaffendorf sports field, the Malerweg leads you to Königstein. You pass the town church and walk along the Latzweg to the foot of Königstein Fortress. You should allow an extra 2 hours for a visit to the fortress. Walk along the old fortress road and the Kanonenweg to Thürmsdorf. You cross the village, pass an old castle and the Malerweg chapel at the Alexander-Thiele viewpoint and walk along the edge of the forest to Weißig.

Hiking with the dog:

One barrier is the comparatively steep, stepped and sometimes narrow Pfaffenstein ascent through the eye of the needle, which also involves climbing iron ladders. Here, hikers with dogs are better off choosing the easy ascent, which includes stone and wooden steps but no ladders and is not as steep.

Königstein Fortress - Already conquered?

The over 400-year-old mountain fortress is today a unique ensemble of European fortress architecture. More than 50 historic buildings and extensive green areas invite you to embark on a fortress adventure. Exhibitions, guided tours and an audio guide (also for children) describe everyday life in the past. Various events and two vacation apartments complete the offer. The adventure restaurant "In den Kasematten" takes you on a culinary journey into the past of the fortress history.
