Although the name suggests it, the Massenei circular route does not run exclusively through the forest area but also a significant part through the town of Großröhrsdorf. The hike starts at Rödertal Stadium in Großröhrsdorf, but there is also a connection to the local train station. The hiking route is consistently marked with the green dot.

Directions

From Großröhrsdorf station, follow the signage (green dot) towards Rödertal Stadium. The path leads directly past the town hall and the Technical Museum of Ribbon Weaving. A bit further off the path is the local history museum. Upon arriving at the stadium, the path continues along the "Alte Straße" towards the district of Bretnig. From here, there is a direct connection to the "Bretnig Circular Hiking Route." From Bretnig, the route runs southwards into the Massenei forest area, which it crosses. The Little Star Forest House, a log cabin used for training and leisure events by the Saxon Forestry State Enterprise, can be reached by a small detour. Passing the Stone Pond, the hiking path leads back out of the Massenei, returning to Großröhrsdorf at the Rödertal Stadium or the train station.

Directions & Parking facilities

You can reach Großröhrsdorf via the A4 motorway, exit Pulsnitz. First, follow the signs to Pulsnitz, then turn right following the signs to Großröhrsdorf. Once in Großröhrsdorf, first turn left onto Radeberger Straße, then right onto Rathausstraße. At the parking lot of Rödertal Stadium, you will have reached your destination.

You can reach the circular route by train to Großröhrsdorf station. From the station, follow Großmannstraße southwards, cross Bandweberstraße, and continue straight along Rathausstraße until you see the Rödertal Stadium. Then you will have reached the path after about one kilometer of walking. Exact details on your connections can be found on the Bahn and ZVON websites.
