Hike in the footsteps of mining on the Eisernhardt. The circular hiking route leads to the almost forgotten relics of the Siegerland mining history.

The Verein für Siegerländer Bergbau e.V. (VSB) carried out various projects between 2005 and 2016 to preserve witnesses of Siegerland mining in the city area of Siegen and on the Eisernhardt. Some adits of the old mines were uncovered and equipped with a new, nature conservation-compatible development at the adit entrance. The design followed templates from the 19th century to make the adit entrances as authentic as possible. After the completion of the work, these mines were included in a circular hiking route.

In this longer version of the circular hiking route, hikers receive information on 10 panels about the topics of Siegerland mining from days gone by. For more than 2,000 years, iron ore as well as valuable non-ferrous metal ores were extracted and smelted in the Eisernhardt area. At many points on the 482 m high mountain, traces of mining are still visible today. Where the ore veins emerged, the oldest mines were located. These are the places we want to guide you to.
