Right through the southeastern tip of Saxony runs the Oberlausitzer Bergweg.

At the tri-border area of Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic awaits a varied hiking route through a diverse mid-mountain landscape. Let yourself be tempted by the highest and best-known mountains of the Upper Lusatia along the way – Butterberg (384m), Valtenberg (587m), Bieleboh (499m), Kottmar (583m), Lausche (793m) and Hochwald (749m) – to a summit assault. Discover fascinating rock formations and forest-rich, idyllic valleys. Visit the picturesque villages of this region with their lively traditions and the unique Upper Lusatian half-timbered houses.

Characteristics:
The route passes through the diverse Upper Lusatian mountain world: granite ridges and volcanic peaks alternate with distinctive sandstone mountains. Along the approx. 70% natural paths, there are also many summits with mountain inns.

From October 1st to including October 15th, 2025, a large part of the forest areas in the Zittau Mountains due to soil protection lime spreading by Sachsenforst will be closed from the air. This affects some parts of the route. Passage is not possible during this time!

Unfortunately, no detour could be arranged for this period. Therefore, we recommend - if possible - to hike the route either before October 1st or after October 15th, 2025.

Safety guidelines

Note: In the Zittau Mountains, the bark beetle calamity has not yet been overcome. Therefore, the urgent removal of damaged wood is unfortunately unavoidable. In winters without frost and snow the paths suffer particularly from the large quantities of wood. We ask for your understanding - extensive repairs are planned for spring and summer.
