The bike route takes you along the traces of the Romans in the tri-border area. 2000 years ago, they planted the first vines on the Moselle. Today, during the Saarland Wine Summer, winemakers offer their products for tasting. Impressions of the splendid Roman way of life are provided by the largest Roman mosaic floor north of the Alps, in the reception hall of a formerly huge palace, as well as the Roman villa in Borg. Here, an entire estate with a functioning bath and tavern has been fully reconstructed.

The route starts at the train station in Perl, very close to the Moselle riverbank opposite the European town Schengen in Luxembourg. Through Perl and the picturesque wine village of Sehndorf with its stately vintner farms, the path leads through vineyards and orchards up to the Saargau. In Borg, the first highlight of the Roman route awaits with the Roman villa. It is the only fully reconstructed domain of an ancient villa complex; even in Italy, the core of the Roman Empire, nothing comparable can be found. With gatehouse, museum manor house, Roman bath, latrine, Roman kitchen, craftsmen's huts, and Roman gardens, Villa Borg offers the ideal setting to immerse yourself in everyday life in Rome. At the end of the visit, the tavern offers an original Roman dish such as spicy Lucanian sausages. From Borg, the route goes via Oberleuken to Kesslingen. Past the restored Jacob's well, a gourmet station with regional delicacies is located at the Kesslingen shelter to introduce the flowing delights of the region. The 18th-century village chapel of St. Jacob, a listed monument, features an ornate slate tower, late Gothic choir, and neo-Gothic portal from the 19th century with a segmented spire (pyramidal roof, extended octagonally with onion domes, lanterns, and tip), and a wooden column altar with a Roman inscription stone as the altar base. A group of oak wood figures depicts the 'Seven Sleepers' and recalls Kesslingen as a pilgrimage site in earlier times. The Kesslingen chapel is closely linked to the pilgrim route by its patron Saint Jacob. In 2014, a group from Kesslingen drove several tractors to Compostela.

Via Faha and Tettingen-Butzdorf with the Saarland Distillery Museum, the path again runs over the heights of the Saargau with wide views towards Luxembourg. Finally, it descends back into the Moselle valley. In Nennig, the Roman villa offers another highlight. Covering 160 sqm, the mosaic there is made up of over 3 million stones and still impresses today with its realism and detail richness. The mosaic is one of the most important examples of Roman art north of the Alps. Along the Moselle, the route then leads back to Perl train station, where you can relaxingly review the route over a glass of Perler wine.
