The 10.5 km long route starts at the tourist info at Losheim reservoir. It was opened in autumn 2005 in Losheim as the second premium path in Saarland.

The title "Tafeltour" means that there have been hiking-friendly gastronomy options along the route from the beginning. Especially the gastronomy by the lake with Hochwälder Brauhaus, SeeGartenBistro, Restaurant Maison au Lac, Hochwälder wellness hotel, and lake hotel as well as two snack kiosks offers a varied selection and something for everyone to this day.

New since summer 2024 are also the two GenussTruhen directly on the path. In 2022, the German Hiking Institute developed the RegionalGenuss-Wege. These routes are premium paths with a special culinary and hiking-friendly offer. The highlight is the Genuss stations along the paths where hikers can supply themselves with regional drinks. In summer 2024, the "Stausee-Tafeltour" in Losheim was launched as a RegionalGenuss path with culinary offers predominantly from partners of the regional initiative "Ebbes von Hei!".

The lake landscape and panoramic views make the route a varied experience. Losheim Lake, enchanted creek valleys, idyllic forests, as well as narrow meadows and forest paths make the Stausee Tafeltour a perfect hiking experience. The highlight remains Losheim reservoir with its leisure activities.

From the reservoir, the path slowly climbs to Scheiden, the highest located town in Saarland. From the local viewpoint, you have a wide view over large parts of Saarland extending to France. With 232 meters of elevation gain, the trail is rated medium difficulty.

Behind the campsite, the path runs directly along the Losheim lake shore. The silence here is only interrupted by the croaking of frogs or the quacking of ducks.

Between the shoreline and the lake circular route lies a swampy forest area paved with wooden stepping stones. Shortly thereafter, there is the possibility to rest at the Kneipp facility.

A few meters behind the Kneipp facility, a meadow path leads into the nearby forest. Later, a long, gentle ascent follows along the Metzenbach creek to two sensory benches above an old quarry. The vast forest area of the Schwarzwälder Hochwald here conveys a special sense of peace and tranquility.

From the outskirts of Scheiden, you have a breathtaking panoramic view over Saarland, Lorraine, and Luxembourg. From now on, it goes downhill along horse pastures and meadows to the edge of the forest. Then the path leads through the forest along hollow ways, narrow paths, and forest roads into the valley until Losheim lake is reached again.

The path was rated by the German Hiking Institute with 74 experience points.
