This 106-kilometer cycling route winds through Saxony’s natural landscapes, idyllic forests, and river meadows, connecting not only numerous towns in the region but also offering the chance to discover its rich culture through historic castles and museums. The route begins at the source of the Große Röder in Western Lusatia near Rammenau. From here, the route runs through Bretnig-Hauswalde to Großröhrsdorf, where a stop at the local history museum or the Technical Museum of Ribbon Weaving is well worth it.
Cycling along the Heinrichsthaler Teiche, you reach Radeberg, the town world-famous for its brewery. Right on the Röder, you can visit the municipal swimming pool after passing Klippenstein Castle. The river winds its way out of the town alongside the bike path. In Seifersdorf, you cross the idyllic Seifersdorf Valley, and at Hermsdorf Castle, the Röder River winds its way around the historic buildings and the castle pond.
The Röder Cycle Route continues through other villages to Radeburg. Here, at the entrance to the town, the river forms a large reservoir on the right-hand side. In Radeburg, you can visit the local history museum with its Heinrich Zille exhibition or take a detour on the Lößnitzgrundbahn to Moritzburg or Radebeul. Further along the route, the town of Großenhain is also on the way. Worth seeing here is the charming old town with the Kulturschloss, whose historic keep offers a magnificent view of the town and the Großenhainer Pflege in the summer. St. Mary’s Church, the “Old Latin School,” and the Garden Show Park—a modern open-space design built for the State Garden Show—are also worth a visit. The route now continues along the Röder River toward Zabeltitz. Here you’ll pass the Große Gabelwehr, where the Röder splits. You’ll then reach Zabeltitz with its Baroque garden, featuring the Old Castle and the Palace. Also worth seeing in Zabeltitz are the Farm Museum and St. George’s Church. The Parkschänke at the northern end of the Baroque garden is a great spot for a break in the beer garden.
The idyllic Röderaue nature reserve, with a total of 25 ponds and its wonderful floodplain landscape, is one of the natural highlights of this route. In Tiefenau, the castle church and the adjacent rose garden with its pavilions are well worth seeing. In the summer months, you can take a relaxing break here at the café on Sundays.
The route finally ends in Brandenburg, in the small village of Kosilenzien, where a stop at the Burgwall Café on the weekend is a must.

- The route begins at the source of the Röder River, somewhat hidden away in the woods near Röderbrunn. The trail is well-marked; follow the signs featuring a white "R" on a green background. As you emerge from the woods, the route passes the "Margareten Oak" and then turns right. You first pass through Luisenberg to reach Bretnig-Hauswalde, where you then leave the main road and take Kirchstraße to Großröhrsdorf. You bypass the town to the south on Weststraße and continue along its extension via Alte Straße. At the town’s edge, turn left to reach Kleinröhrsdorf via Hahnweg. On Großröhrsdorfer Straße, passing through outlying houses and Heinrichsthal, you’ll finally reach Radeberg.
The route crosses the S 177 and turns left immediately afterward onto "Am Hofegrund." This takes you over the Schlossberg to Klippenstein Castle. Then turn right along the Wasserweg, passing the city pool, follow Röderstraße and Dr.-Wilhelm-Külz-Straße straight ahead, and cross Dresdner Straße. Then continue along the Röder River on the streets “An den Leithen” and Talstraße. In Lotzdorf, turn left onto Lotzdorfer Straße and then ride straight ahead on Rödertalstraße through Liegau-Augustusbad. A steep climb leads out of the village again; then keep left toward Seifersdorf. There, turn left again at the castle to enter the Seifersdorf Valley. Before the Marienmühle, head directly uphill toward Schönborn and, at the upcoming intersection, keep left to reach Grünberg. Ride along Lausaer Straße and then follow Schlossstraße to the right to pass Hermsdorf Castle. Cross Dresdner Straße straight ahead and follow Medinger Straße.
Pass through the villages of Medingen, Großdittmannsdorf, and Boden to arrive in Radeburg. Ride through downtown via the roundabout, along Radeberger Straße, Würschnitzer Straße, and Hofwall, then cross Röderstraße. Then turn right onto Königsbrücker Straße, and after a few meters, turn left back onto the Röderaue. Continue straight ahead to Rödern. Here, keep right to leave the town. Continue straight ahead, then turn left at the sign for Freitelsdorf and follow the river again. Ride through the villages of Cunnersdorf, Bieberach, and Kalkreuth, Paulsmühle, and Reiherhof to Großenhain. The route runs along the Röder, past the natural swimming area and the lakeside park, and via Parkstraße in the western part of the city into the city park. Continue on Skassaer Straße toward Skassa. In town, follow Rödertalstraße and then turn right onto Riesaer Landstraße, then turn right again onto “Zur Neumühle.” Continue through Wildenhain and Bauda to the fork in the river and then on to Zabeltitz. Pass the Baroque garden and palace on your right, and after the Parkschänke on the main street, cycle about 200 meters to the right into the forest.
Follow the Röderwildbett and the signs along the ponds to Koselitz. There, keep right and go straight past the church. Then turn left and ride past the Toffelsteich. Follow the path on the main road to Tiefenau and keep right there before the Schlosskirche. Ride around the Tiefenauer Brauteich on the right, continue straight through the pond area to Spansberg, and follow the village road there. Continue straight ahead, ride out of the village toward Schweinfurth, and after the dirt road, turn left to cycle around the Schweinfurth ponds. In Kröbeln, take Teichstraße, then turn right onto Liebenwerdaer Straße and cross Mühlberger Straße to the left. Then keep right and continue along the dirt roads, past the Burgwall, to arrive at your destination, Kosilenzien.
