Directions
The hiking trail starts at the town tower in Groitzsch near the market square. Passing the Frauenkirche, it also touches the ruins of Wiprechtsburg. This was historically significant as the castle of Count Wiprecht of Groitzsch and is considered the oldest stone building in Saxony. Next, the path enters the nature reserve “Pfarrholz,” a species-rich floodplain forest area, which is crossed by the Schwennigke river. Passing the villages of Altengroitzsch and Saasdorf, the route continues via Gatzen to Löbnitz-Bennewitz. Here, the route ends at the former manor, the baptism place of Ulrike von Levetzow. This stretch is approx. 6.5 km.
The path is marked with a yellow horizontal bar on a white background.
Also signposted is the scenic connecting path from Löbnitz-Bennewitz to Profen station. From there, the return journey can be started. This connecting path covers approx. 4 km.
