On this walking tour, a selection of legends that have arisen in and around the city of Zittau over the centuries are presented. They are short, mostly orally transmitted stories about fantastic, mystical and historical, but also nature-inspired tales. All legends were created by anonymous authors and belong to the early part of folk literature. They usually refer to specific events in our city and - unlike fairy tales - can usually be assigned to persons and local history. During your walk, you will certainly easily discover the historical backgrounds of individual legends! The content of the present legends is based on the 1903 published "Legend Book of the Kingdom of Saxony" by Dr. Alfred Meiche. We thank bao GmbH Bautzen, Training Center Zittau, for the design and practical implementation of the individual stations of the legend route as well as the Jobcenter of the Görlitz district for the support!
