A cozy café on Krahnstraße, located in one of Osnabrück’s oldest townhouses. Built in 1533, it served as quarters for the Spanish envoy during the negotiations for the Peace of Westphalia. In 1903, Johannes Läer opened a bakery in the half-timbered building. His promise back then was to “always use only the best ingredients for my baked goods and pastries.” In 2019, Yvonne Kühne and Winfried Hanekamp took over the bakery and café from the Läer family. For the new owners, too, the top-notch quality of the products remains the focus of “Sophies – in the tradition of Café Läer.” Enjoy homemade cakes, rolls, breads, and much more in organic quality straight from the attached bakery. Breads, baguettes, and rolls are baked here with great care, as are sweet treats such as macarons, cakes, and petit fours. Coffee and wine come from the neighborhood, Demeter-certified flours from the Osnabrück region, and primeval sea salt from Bad Essen.
