George Bähr Church in Schmannewitz
Schmannewitz has a cultural and historical attraction with its baroque village church. It was built as a single-nave building in 1731/32, while the octagonal tower and the interior with galleries date from the end of the 18th century. The people of Schmannewitz were in for a surprise when the tower was rebuilt in 1961/62. An eight-page parchment was found which revealed that the design for the Schmannewitz church came from the famous George Bähr, the master builder of the Frauenkirche in Dresden. The old Rühle organ is also well preserved. If you are on vacation in Schmannewitz at the right time, you can experience wonderful concerts here.
