Tradition and renewal: the church in Drennhausen experienced an eventful history from its foundation to its renovation in 2017.
The church in Drennhausen has an eventful history dating back to the 14th century. Originally, the people of Marschach founded the church, as Drennhausen was often difficult to reach due to high water levels. The Hacheder pastor Johannes donated a chapel as early as 1308. The first documented mention of the current building dates back to 1347. The church was consecrated to the Virgin Mary, as evidenced by a weather vane and a bell until 1704.

At the end of the Thirty Years' War, the parishioners rebuilt the sacristy, the bridal house and the roof. The first entries in the "Drennhausen church register" began in 1667. These records show that the church served as a "fort on the Elbe" during the French period and was protected by a deep moat and palisades. After the Wars of Liberation, around 1817, the church was given a neoclassical makeover.

The original wooden bell tower fell into disrepair in 1850 and gave way to a stone building. In 1857, the church received an Eduard Meyer organ. The pulpit altar is designed so that the priest preaches from the altar wall. The Eye of Providence is emblazoned above the final triangle of the altar wall. The church's inventory includes an altar candlestick from 1747, a communion box from 1726 and a communion chalice from 1859.

In 1881, the tower received a communion bell with the inscription "Kommet, denn es ist alles bereit" (Come, for all is ready). In 1966, the Rincker bell and art foundry cast two more bells.

In 1987/88, the organ was extensively overhauled. A major renovation of the church followed in 2017 to repair moisture damage.
