Wendelstein is one of the most distinctive and exciting peaks in Upper Bavaria and, for all who do not take the mountain railway, a sporty but all the more rewarding challenge.

From afar, you see the 55-meter-high broadcasting mast of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation. You have to come a little closer to see the round domes of the observatory. And the little church between the rocky peaks, that has to be sought with the eye. Wendelstein, with its many buildings, is one of the most prominent peaks in Upper Bavaria and has a lot of history and many stories to tell. The Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation could tell about Germany's highest ground-network transmitter, the Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics of the University of Munich about the exceptionally good observing conditions at the observatory. And the more than 130-year-old walls of Germany's highest church (built in 1889) surely have some stories as well. This is a difficult hike mostly on well-accessible paths, meaning very good fitness and surefootedness are required.
