Circular hike on the Lohse-Uhlig Trail

The Lohse-Uhlig Trail combines architectural history with scenic appeal. It honors two significant Saxon master builders of the 18th century: Johann Traugott Lohse and Christian Friedrich Uhlig. Both shaped – together and independently – the construction activity in the region and beyond.

Along the route lie numerous buildings designed by them, including churches, school buildings, town halls, and spinning mills. The path leads through various districts, past historic buildings, and up to viewpoints with broad views of the Chemnitz surroundings.

Lohse is considered a pioneer of church and factory construction in Saxony. Uhlig, coming from modest origins, only emerged with his own designs from 1820 onwards – strongly influenced by Lohse’s style. Together and independently, they left a visible architectural legacy to this day.

The trail is an official intervention area of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 and part of a supraregional network of cultural sites with special significance.
