Along the way, there are countless sights worth visiting. So you should take plenty of time to tackle the nearly 130 km long section of the total 1,270-kilometer-long Elberadweg.
Pirna is the starting point of this route. The town is especially known for its picturesque old town at the market square with the town hall, St. Mary's Church, and the Canaletto House (now Tourist Information). From here, you mount the saddle and head downriver towards the northwest. On the very well-developed cycle path, you can ride very relaxed through the charming Elbe landscape to the state capital Dresden. Initially, you will find Pillnitz Castle and Park with the surrounding vineyards, pass through the famous Blue Wonder in the district of Loschwitz, and then always follow the river past the Elbe Castles into the Dresden city center. On the opposite side of the Elbe, the baroque old town impresses with the Church of Our Lady, the Semper Opera House, and the Zwinger. On the right side of the Elbe, the Dresden Neustadt offers a creative art, cultural, and lively scene district full of clubs and pubs as a contrasting program.
Then it continues through the magnificent wine landscape to Radebeul. Here you can visit, for example, the Hoflößnitz winery with the Saxon Wine Museum, the historic village green Altkötzschenbroda, or the Schloss Wackerbarth experience winery. On the Elberadweg in Radebeul, you will also find an ADAC bike service station where you can perform small repairs on your bike yourself with the integrated tools or pump up tires. The next town you pass is Coswig. Here, directly on the Elberadweg, is the Kötitz bathing lake, where you can dive into the cool water during summer. In the Coswig district of Sörnitz, the Schuh winery awaits its guests. This family business perfectly combines winemaking craftsmanship and hospitality. It is all about discovery, experience, and enjoyment. Further along the Elbe, the view opens up to Saxony's smallest mountain range, the Spaargebirge with the Boselspitze. A detour is worthwhile; you can stop at the beer garden above, visit the species-rich Botanical Garden of TU Dresden, and enjoy a wonderful view of the Elbe valley. After passing Coswig, you enter the beautiful town of Meißen. Here, you can visit the Johanniskirche cycle route church. If you take a detour to the left side of the Elbe, many sights await you, such as the Meißen old town with its quaint alleys, the famous Albrechtsburg Meißen, the Meißen Cathedral, or the HAUS MEISSEN experience world.
After that, you still experience the beauty of the charming wine and river landscape as you pass the next town of Diesbar-Seußlitz. Here, Schloss and Park Seußlitz and some cozy wineries await a visit. If you take a short detour into the vineyards, you can enjoy the wide view over the Elbe valley from the "Most Beautiful Wine View 2020". Diesbar-Seußlitz also has an ADAC bike service station that you can use if needed.
On the further journey towards North Saxony, you pass the large steel town of Riesa, while the Elbe gets increasingly wider. The Elbe meadows are repeatedly crossed, a natural experience full of flora and fauna with even sea eagles to be observed here. In Lorenzkirch, a district of Zeithain, is the next ADAC bike service station.
Before Torgau, the route shows more nature a little away from the river course and passes through some communities such as Graditz, home to the main stud Graditz, a place worth visiting not only for horse fans.
A few kilometers later, you reach the destination town of Torgau. The 1,000-year history can be felt in every corner of the historic old town. From the Renaissance market square, you can reach in minutes the most significant still preserved castle of the early Renaissance in Germany - Hartenfels Castle. Here, for example, from the Hausmann Tower, you have a beautiful view over the roofs of the old town and the Elbe meadows. Torgau thus forms a worthy conclusion to the Dresden Elbland stage of the Elberadweg.
The left bank route guidance of the section leads you back to Pirna: Elberadweg - Dresden Elbland section (Pirna - Torgau)
