Anyone who wants to get to know East Frisia from the saddle should set out on the discovery tour on the almost 290-kilometer-long Friesenroute "Rad up Pad". You drift along dikes and lighthouses, circle large and small seas, cycle along dreamy fen canals, and discover untouched moor areas.
The bike circular route runs through twelve municipalities of the Aurich district and into the city of Emden. The journey goes to castles, palaces, churches, and windmills, along varied landscapes such as geest, marsh, moor, coast, and of course by water.
This circular route runs entirely on the signed bike network and is marked with the symbol "Rad up Pad." Rest areas allow cyclists to enjoy a pleasant break.
General and art and cultural historical information boards offer the opportunity for a small educational journey along the way.

Directions
The cycle path network in East Frisia is extremely easy to understand:
At intersections, arm signposts provide guidance about the distances to travel and directions to your desired destination. In confusing situations, tabular signposts give reliable information about the further direction well before the intersection. And along the way, you won’t stray from the right path if you follow the direction arrows of the intermediate signposts.
Stage description
Emden – Greetsiel (approx. 50 km) Start from Emden directly into the East Frisian landscape of Krummhörn, where idyllic terp villages await you.
Greetsiel – Norden (approx. 50 km) Through the Brookmerland, which lies right at the gates of the North Sea, the second stage reaches Norden-Norddeich: the oldest town in East Frisia and its lively seaside resort.
Norden – Dornum (approx. 40 km) Continue along the coast into the outskirts of the Wadden Sea National Park and to the "Herrlichkeit" Dornum with its castles and fortresses.
Dornum – Aurich (approx. 50 km) Experience pure nature on your way through the moor landscape of the East Frisian inland to Aurich, the secret capital of the East Frisians.
Aurich – Großefehn (approx. 45 km) Continue via the town of Wiesmoor – Lower Saxony’s flowerbed – “along the canal” directly into the fen area of Großefehn.
Großefehn – Emden, departure (approx. 55 km) On the last stage, the typical fen canals with their picturesque drawbridges will take you back to Emden. The seaport city of Emden is the center of numerous sights and impresses with a successful combination of tradition and modernity.
