- Start: Großefehn
- Destination: Emden
The start of this stage is the “5-Mill-Land” Großefehn. It invites you to relaxed cycling with its windmills and numerous canals. Worth seeing churches as well as restored Gulf farms form an attractive contrast to the modern recreation area “Timmeler Meer”.
The community of Ihlow with generous forest and water areas such as the Ihlow State Forest, the Ihlow monastery site, the shallow lake biotope “Sandwater” and the natural outdoor pool Ihler Meer offer countless possibilities.
The Friesenroute now leads the cyclist into the community of Hinte. Wide meadows and fields, crossed by the already well-known canals, are made for discovery tours by bike. A special “eye-catcher”: the leaning tower in Suurhusen with an overhang of 2.43 m. Also worth seeing is the castle “Hinta”, an inhabited water castle that points to a historically significant past.
The seaport town of Emden, the center of various sights, forms the final point of this stage.
