This family-friendly cycle tour is an experience for young and old and combines nature, culture and exercise on a relaxed and varied route.

The circular tour from Großenhain to Zabeltitz and back is perfect for families with children and won't leave you bored! On the varied route, which is mostly off-road, we can expect a beautiful landscape with great views and lots of playgrounds. With its cultural and historical sights, the tour offers numerous highlights for the whole family. A visit to the Zabeltitz Farmers' Museum, for example, shows life as it was in great-grandmother's day.

Refreshment stops, snack stands, ice cream stores and bakeries can be found directly along the route in Großenhain and Zabeltitz. No wishes remain unfulfilled. The church barn in Wildenhain also invites you to take an extended break with a picnic (open daily from April to October, 9 am - 6 pm). Other shady resting places offer opportunities for children to give free rein to their urge to move and explore.

The tour is ideal for families with children aged 1 to 4 years if the children are taken along in a bike trailer or child seat. Families with children who can already ride a bike safely (aged approx. 10 to 14 years) will also get their money's worth on this route.

This is a suggested tour and not a signposted cycle route. This means that the tour suggestion is only available as a digital track and is not signposted separately on site, although it largely follows existing cycle routes.

Directions

The tour starts and ends at Cottbus train station in Großenhain. The route first leads through the town, past St. Mary's Church to the main market square, from where it joins the Röderrad route via Meißner Straße. Via the Röderinsel, the route continues through the Gartenschaupark with playgrounds for young and old children to the Stadtpark. The well-developed cycle paths through the city park take you out of Großenhain and along the Röderradroute on idyllic, natural paths via Skassa to Wildenhain.

In Wildenhain, the church barn invites you to take a cozy picnic break. Unpack your provisions and enjoy a break in the countryside while the children let off steam in the garden. Coffee lovers can also take a short detour to the Müller coffee roastery, where regional specialties and treats are sold alongside coffee.

After this breather, you cycle on to the Große Gabelwehr, where the Röder splits. The river rushes by here, providing the perfect photo opportunity with its refreshing backdrop. The route continues through the picturesque landscape to the historic Zabeltitz Baroque Garden with its imposing Baroque palace. A perfect place to explore, discover and stroll around. Another highlight is the Farmers' Museum, which depicts life in days gone by. The lovingly restored exhibits and stories about rural life in the past are an experience for young and old explorers alike.

The return route starts via Kastanienallee in the direction of Walda and follows the church cycle path. After a short stretch on Waldaer Straße, the cycle path turns right and leads along field paths to the historic town of Walda with its castle park. From there, follow the signs to Kleinthiemig and back to Großenhain. Back in the town park, the playground and ice cream parlor are waiting to be conquered. In summer, anyone who feels like it can take a dip in the cool water and end the day with fun and refreshment in the NaturErlebnisBad - the perfect reward after an active excursion!
