A good mix of short and long forest sections alternating with small and larger meadow sections. The highlight of the hike is the route alongside the gorge of the Mühlenbach.

Just a stone's throw from the car park at the shelter of the Saarwaldverein is clearly visible the entrance portal of the Mühlenbach Gorge Route. After a short forest section follows a narrow meadow path. Shady forest passages alternating with forest and meadow edges follow through gently rolling landscape.

From a meadow path you enter the passable gorge of the Mühlenbach. Here the raw power with which the Mühlenbach has carved into the sandstone becomes visible. From several viewing platforms you can follow the meanders of the Mühlenbach well. Only the sound of the brook can be heard. Dippers provide a brief spectacle as they fly through the gorge.

After crossing the Vorderer Weierkopf forest, the Marienkapelle stands on the Rotwäldchen above Saarwellingen. It was built in 1950 by men from Saarwellingen who built the chapel as a sign of a happy return from World War II. From the benches in front of the chapel there is a wide view into the country; in front of us the first houses of Saarwellingen, behind them rises the Litermont, to the left the spoil tip of Ensdorf, and behind it the ridges rising from the Saar valley into the Saargau with the Europa 1 transmission masts.

The path was rated with 62 experience points by the German Hiking Institute!
