This varied circular hike starts in Lauter, close to the outdoor swimming pool. Through a small allotment garden area, the route initially follows the European long-distance trail E3 into the picturesque Griesetal. Here you are accompanied by the gentle babbling of the brook, while the path passes a former ski jumping facility and open pasture areas. Soon the path disappears into the dense coniferous forest and steadily ascends.
Upon reaching the forest edge, the path turns right. Those who are not afraid of a short detour can reach the site of the former nine-stemmed beech tree, a special natural monument of the region, after about 100 meters to the left. The hiking trail now runs almost level through the forest and over clearings before it ascends again on the left. A small pond marks the junction to the Waldschulheim Conradswiese. Here, education and nature go hand in hand.
Shortly after the Waldschulheim, the route leaves the E3 and leads to the Sachsenstein – a real highlight with an impressive view over Lauter and far into the Ore Mountains. The view extends over several peaks and valleys of this ancient cultural landscape. The path briefly returns and then turns left to the Danelchristelgut. The charming hotel with beer garden invites you to stop for a break.
From here, the panorama of the Ore Mountains opens once more in all its splendor. With wide views and an easy path, it goes downhill until at a junction the path turns right. Passing individual houses, hikers finally reach the starting point in Lauter again.

Directions
In the shady forest, the path steadily ascends. At the next junction, keep right and follow the ascending path through open woodland. Eventually, a cross path at the forest edge is reached, where you must turn right. If you wish, you can take a short detour to the left (about 100 m) to the site of the former nine-stemmed beech tree.
Back on the main route, the path continues almost level through the forest and over clearings. At the Griesbach, turn left off the main path onto the Buchenweg and follow it uphill again. The path remains on the E3 and leads, after two right turns, to the Waldschulheim Conradswiese.
Behind the Waldschulheim, keep right. After about 400 meters, the path leaves the E3 to the right. You now follow a quieter forest path until shortly thereafter the left turn to the Lower Sachsenstein is reached – a prominent viewpoint.
The return route initially follows the same section back to the previous junction, where you now keep left. At the next junction, turn right and then continue straight ahead until the forest opens to reveal a view of the Danelchristelgut with hotel and dining opportunity.
At the hotel, follow the road to the left. After several hundred meters, the Lindenstraße branches off to the right, which you follow downhill back to the starting point in Lauter.
