The demanding hike follows the E3 and EB and offers repeatedly beautiful views over the low mountain landscape.

This varied hike combines wide views with quiet forest paths and impressive cultural experiences in the heart of the Ore Mountains. The start is in Lauter, near the outdoor pool, on the European long-distance path E3, which you follow to the Danelchristelgut. Here a short break in the beer garden is worthwhile before the path turns right: leaving E3 and going up to the Sachsenstein viewpoint. The view from here is simply spectacular and rewards with a wonderful panorama over the low mountain landscape.

Shortly thereafter, the route meets the E3 again. The path then leads past the Waldschulheim Conradswiese and the cozy mountain inn Morgenleithe with observation tower – a wonderful opportunity to stop for refreshments. A long, shady section follows through the dense Ore Mountains forest that lets the soul rest.

Finally, the E3 is left and the path now follows the EB. Warning: a short section runs on the road. In Antonsthal, the panorama briefly opens up and invites to a worthwhile visit to the historic Silberwäsche – a lively piece of mining history.

Then the route continues towards Schwarzenberg, a town with charm, history, and diverse districts. Again and again, fascinating views open over the gentle hilly landscape. A detour to the Waldbühne Schwarzenberg – one of the largest of its kind in Germany – is a special highlight of the route.

Soon the circle closes and the path meets the E3 again. Through diverse nature it goes on, past the legendary nine-stemmed beech and down into the romantic Griesetal. Here the water flows quietly and accompanies the hikers back to the starting point – filled with nature, culture, and Ore Mountains variety.

The route is not continuously and uniformly marked on site. Please use the digital trail guidance.

Directions

The hike starts near the outdoor swimming pool. From here, it goes uphill on the E3 to the Danelchristelgut. There, turn right, at the next intersection turn right again, and then left. Shortly thereafter, a path branches off to the right to the Sachsenstein viewpoint. After enjoying the panorama, return to the main path and continue until you meet the E3 again. Follow it to the left, past the Waldschulheim Conradswiese, and always stay on the E3.

At the mountain inn Morgenleithe, the EB crosses the E3; from here, follow the EB straight on. After crossing a road, the route leads for a short stretch on the road towards Antonsthal. Already at the edge of the village, the EB turns left into the forest, loops around, and at an intersection continues to the right. Follow the EB to the Schwarzenberg district of Bermsgrün. There, the path runs on the municipal road through the village until you reach Dorfstraße. Keep left, then cross over the street Wolfshof onto Pappelweg and turn opposite the sports field onto a field path, thus leaving the EB.

After a short time, you reach the Waldbühne, which you leave again on the upper part on the opposite side. Then turn left onto the street at Rockelmann and turn right into Bermsgrüner Straße. At the intersection with Kratzbeersteig, you meet the E3 again. Follow it uphill to the left, then turn right into the next street, again right shortly thereafter, and finally left into Linden- and Anton-Günther-Straße. After crossing the main road, keep left on Bockauer Weg and continue out of the town. After a small stream, turn right, then again right at the forest edge and don’t miss the sharp left turn back. At Griesbach, keep right and follow the path back to the starting point at the outdoor swimming pool.
