As you walk along the trail, discover old vineyard walls and terraces hidden behind dense trees, which bear witness to the area’s winegrowing past. After the phylloxera epidemic in the late 19th century, these vineyards were abandoned, and nature has reclaimed its habitat. Various interpretive stations along the trail describe this “vineyard in transition.”
From the Albrechtshöhe, you’ll enjoy a fascinating view across the Dresden Heath, to the Dresden TV Tower, and all the way to Saxon Switzerland. At the traditional “Graue Presse” estate, a display panel commemorates the historic wine press, which can now be viewed at the Hoflößnitz Wine Museum.
Follow the enchanted Straken forest trail, where you can discover remnants of Radebeul’s historic water supply system. From the lower ravine, you can see the “Steinerne Schnecke” high up on the Hermannsberg—an old stone structure from the 17th century that once served as a watchtower for thieves and fires and is now the landmark of the “Drei Herren” winery. From here, the trail leads through Oberlößnitz, where Radebeul shows itself at its most beautiful. Historic winegrowers’ houses and points of interest line the path through the picturesque vineyard landscape.
A highlight is the historic Spitzhaus vineyard house, which now houses a panoramic restaurant. From the sun terrace, you can enjoy an impressive view of the “Goldener Wagen” vineyard and far beyond Radebeul. Right next to it stands the Bismarck Tower, from whose plateau you can also take in the view. The trail continues via the Spitzhaus Stairs right through the heart of the vineyard. At Hoflößnitz, you’ll learn more about the history of Saxon viticulture and the work of the winemakers. Afterward, you can enjoy a glass of wine—all of which is grown exclusively using organic methods—on the wine terrace.
Wineries, romantic wine estates, and wine taverns line Weinbergstraße. Many winemakers invite visitors to themed wine tastings and vineyard tours.
