Church
The three-aisled Gothic church of St. Johannis is Göttingen's council and town church. It was built between 1300 and 1344 and the Romanesque north portal has been preserved from its predecessor.

The two different church towers are striking. The south tower (56.5 m) is topped by the north tower (62 m). The latter once housed the tower keepers, and later the former tower keeper's apartment was home to the highest student accommodation in Germany. Today, the tower room is used as a place of worship.
