A beautiful route through the diverse Görlitz park landscape. Discover the various green spaces and parks in the city from spring to autumn.

Görlitz is a city that not only offers architectural gems but also boasts a diverse park landscape.
The hike begins at one of the oldest landscape parks in Germany. Over 500 years ago, a copy of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem was built in Görlitz. The surroundings include the Ölberggarten, the Kidron stream, and the Via Dolorosa. From the Ölberggarten, it is only a few steps to the Nikolaifriedhof, one of the most beautiful baroque cemeteries in Germany.
From the Nikolaifriedhof, proceed to Nikolaistraße to the entrance of a beautiful green area – the Nikolaizwinger. Behind the Peterskirche, you continue to Uferstraße. There you find the entrance to the Ochsenbastei, which is especially beautiful during the wisteria bloom. At the exit of the Ochsenbastei, you go down Bergstraße to the Uferpark. The path continues through the vineyard area along the Neisse to the Berggarten and ends at Kreuzkirchenpark in Reuterstraße.

Directions

The hike begins at the Ölberggarten behind the Holy Sepulchre. The Ölberggarten is over 500 years old and is one of the oldest landscape parks in Germany. Afterwards, you walk past the Nikolaifriedhof - a green area where you can find baroque crypt houses of Görlitz merchant families next to the oldest church in Görlitz, the Nikolaikirche.
Your path continues through the Nikolaizwinger and the Ochsenbastei. These are preserved sections of the double city wall from the Middle Ages. The two areas between the inner and outer city walls were transformed into beautiful green spaces by the Görlitz landscape architect Henry Kraft.
If you continue to the city park, you will pass the Uferpark. The Uferpark was newly created after the demolition of an industrial wasteland. The Görlitz city park was laid out according to designs by the great landscape architect Lenné. There are many rare and old trees, a sundial stands on the rose terrace, and the meridian stone marks the course of the 15th meridian. Only a few hundred meters behind the city park lies the Park of Peace with the monument of the best-known Görlitz native Jacob Böhme. He became world-famous as a shoemaker philosopher.
On your further path, you walk along the Neisse riverbank to the Neisse viaduct. You pass the Obermühle, where you can rest and have a snack. Above the Neisse viaduct is the Friedenshöhe - a park with a rich history. The name "Friedenshöhe" is for the viewpoint in front of the blockhouse and recalls the end of the Franco-German War of 1871.
Towards the end of the route, you reach the vineyard area with the closed vineyard house. Not far from there runs the park railway, a miniature replica of the "Adler" locomotive. The park railway and the large adjacent playground offer variety for children of all ages.
Near the park railway is the Schellergrund, the remaining part of a wide, no longer recognizable valley towards the Neisse. The following approximately 1-hectare area of the Berggarten slopes to the south and is characterized by a large meadow, around which plantings of deciduous and coniferous trees are effectively grouped.

Along the Oder-Neisse cycle path, you return to the old town. You can also take tram line 1 or bus line B.
