Gravel Tour 2: Valleys on the Left Bank of the Elbe

Zschonergrundstraße later becomes Merbitzer Straße, which leads out of the residential area. Kirchweg then branches off to the right and passes under the highway bridge. At the intersection with Elbhangstraße, turn left onto Elbhangstraße, which then becomes Oberlandstraße. After about 500 meters, turn left again to follow Gewerbepark Street over the highway bridge to the edge of the Podemus residential area. A short right turn leads onto Roitzscher Landstraße. At the next intersection, turn left onto Roitzscher Dorfstraße. After a short stretch on “Am Mühlberg,” turn left onto Steinbacher Grundstraße and immediately afterward right onto “Am Erlengrund.” At the end of the street, turn left onto a dirt road, keep left toward Federal Highway 173, and continue to Pennricher Höhe. There, turn left and, after about 100 meters, turn right again onto Oskar-Maune-Straße. Before the streetcar stop, turn briefly left onto Gompitzer Höhe and then immediately right onto the small street in front of the hotel. Continue straight ahead on Gompitzer Straße, crossing the federal highway and

the freeway

After passing the freeway, turn right off this street onto Kohlsdorfer Weg and follow it for a while until it becomes Pennricher Straße. You are now in Wurgwitz, a district of Freital. Continue straight ahead to reach Pesterwitzer Straße, cross it, and then follow the unpaved Kohlsdorfer Straße straight ahead through an orchard meadow, along the Hammerbach. After about 350 m, turn right onto a dirt road to reach Edgar-Rudolph-Weg. Turn right onto it there, cross Wurgwitzer Straße, and continue straight ahead. As you leave town, Edgar-Rudolph-Weg crosses Kesselsdorfer Straße on your left; continue on Zur Wiederitz and, keeping to the right, take Erlenstraße back onto Edgar-Rudolph-Weg, which winds through rolling hills and fields and eventually leads to Kesselsdorf.

In Kesselsdorf, you’ll soon reach Christian-Klengel-Straße; turn right there and then left again. Next, cross Straße des Friedens and turn onto Unkersdorfer Straße across the street. Follow this road to Sachsenallee and turn right there. At the very next intersection, turn left again onto a path and continue straight past the Kesselsdorf Youth Club, under the B170 underpass, and along the Zschonerbach stream. Cross the stream on your left, then turn right immediately afterward. After a short distance, you’ll reach Inselallee; keep to the right and follow it back to Unkersdorfer Straße, where you’ll turn right onto the street that becomes Am Steinhübel. At the next intersection, turn left again onto Alte Nossener Poststraße.

This road leads to the tranquil village of Kaufbach, where you turn left onto Dorfstraße. Follow it along the Kaufbach until you reach Oberstraße. Here, turn right, follow Oberstraße briefly to the next intersection, and then continue left onto a dirt road. Later, you’ll come to the street “An der Autobahn,” where you turn left, then shortly afterward turn right onto Hühndorfer Straße and pass under the highway. After a short while, turn left again, stay on Hühndorfer Straße, and you’ll reach the small village of Sachsendorf. After passing the chapel, turn left onto Sachsendorfer Weg. At the next intersection, turn right onto Saubachtalweg and follow it along the Wilde Sau back toward Sachsendorf and Klipphausen. After a short distance, you’ll come to Bergstraße; cross it and turn onto Hühndorfer Straße on the opposite side.

Just before Klipphausen Castle, turn left onto Talstraße. Pass the castle and turn right onto Neudeckmühlenweg. At the next fork in the road, continue straight on Neudeckmühlenweg until you reach Kirchweg; then follow it to the left until you reach Harthaer Straße in Röhrsdorf. Turn left onto Harthaer Straße, which then becomes Pinkowitzer Straße. After passing through the settlement, turn left again, head into the forest via Gävernitze Street, and continue to the next village, Naustadt. There, keep sharply to the right onto “Zur Hopfendarre” and follow this road to Pegenau. Here, stay on “Zur Hopfendarre” to the right. Further along, it becomes “Eichberg” Street, and you’ll reach Gauernitz. Here, turn right onto “Am Grundbach” into the Eichhörnchengrund and immediately left again toward the woods and fields toward Pinkowitz. There, turn right onto Langen Weg and immediately left again into the Regenbach Valley. Following the path and the Regenbach stream,

you’ll

arrive directly in Constappel

At the cemetery in Constappel, turn left onto Harthaer Berg and immediately afterward right onto Hohle Gasse. After a short distance, turn left onto Schlackenweg and then right onto the small alley before turning left onto Alten Schulweg. Follow this road via “An der Wilden Sau” to Meißner Allee (B6). Cross the B6 and turn right onto Alte Dorfstraße. Keeping right there, you’ll return to the Elbe Cycle Path via Wildberg. Pass under the Niederwarthaer Bridge, turn right twice toward “Am Fährhaus,” and cross the Elbe Bridge to the other side of the river to reach Niederwarthaer Straße. From there, turn right and follow the riverside road until you reach “An der Festwiese” again. After one final right turn, you’ll be back in Radebeul at the “An der Festwiese” parking lot, where the loop tour ends.

5. Take your trash with you: Everything you bring—from packaging and tissues to spare parts—must be taken back with you.

6. Wear appropriate gear: A helmet, lights, tools, spare parts, possibly snacks, and plenty of water are standard equipment.

7. Plan ahead: Check the weather and trail conditions, make sure your bike and gear are in good shape—and familiarize yourself with the route beforehand.
