The Zille Bike Trail is a varied route that begins and ends south of Brockwitz/Coswig along the Elbe Bike Trail. Named after the famous artist Heinrich Zille, the route winds through picturesque landscapes and historic towns.
The starting point of this bike tour is right on the Elbe Cycle Route and is ideal for exploring the region between the Elbe, Radeburg, and Moritzburg. Right at the start, it’s worth taking a short detour on foot to the Boselspitze —part of Saxony’s smallest mountain range, the Spaargebirge. After a short climb, you’ll reach the Botanical Garden, which is home to a variety of rare plants. From a height of nearly 200 meters, you’ll enjoy an impressive view of the Elbe Valley.
As you continue through the Friedewald, you’ll pass a wolf monument commemorating a hunt led by Elector Johann Georg I in 1618.
The route continues through the forests around Moritzburg, where you can relax and unwind on wide forest trails—even by bike. The forest ponds scattered throughout invite
you
to take a break.
Just a few kilometers further on, you’ll reach Radeburg, the birthplace of Heinrich Zille. Zille, also known as “Pinselheinrich,” was a prominent illustrator and photographer who primarily captured the Berlin scene of the early 20th century. In Radeburg, you can visit his birthplace and learn more about his life and work at the local history museum.
After this cultural highlight, the route leads back toward the Elbe through diverse landscapes and past sights such as the moated castle in Berbisdorf. In Radebeul, a visit to the Hoflößnitz Winery is well worth your time. Here, you can enjoy a wine tasting amidst the vineyards and learn more about Saxon viticulture. The historic winery, with its adjacent wine museum, is a real gem and offers a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside.
At the end of the tour, you’ll arrive in Altkötzschenbroda, a lovingly restored village green with numerous restaurants, cafés, and small shops. Here you can enjoy the cozy atmosphere and wind down the tour.
The route then follows the Elbe Cycle Path back to the starting point south of Brockwitz/Coswig.

Directions
- The route begins at the Elbe Cycle Path in Brockwitz/Coswig and initially heads north along Borngasse. In Brockwitz, keep to the right and immediately turn left onto Auerstraße. Follow this road to the “Am Spitzberg” intersection, where you’ll turn left onto Spitzgrundstraße and then immediately right onto Grenzweg. From there, follow a forest path to the right until, after about 900 m, you turn right again onto Grenzweg. Continue cycling along this path through the forest until you reach Auerweg. There, cross Moritzburger Straße and continue straight ahead into the forest. At the next intersection, keep left and then turn right into the village of Neuer Anbau.
Cross the S81 straight ahead, then turn left onto the “Heidehof” path. After about 600 m, turn right onto the LW-Weg and then follow the Sternweg until you reach the Altenteiche ponds in the wooded area. Immediately after the ponds, turn left onto the “W-Weg” and continue straight ahead on the “HC-Weg” until you reach the Ziegelwiese. There, turn right onto the “F-Weg” toward Bärwalde. You’ll pass through the village along Weinböhlaer Straße, past the church, and through the sunken path. Immediately after leaving the village, the route turns right and leads across the fields along the street “An den Ziegeleien” to Radeburg.
In Radeburg, follow the bike path along Freiheitsstraße, Gartenstraße, Siedlung, Hospitalstraße, Carolinstraße, and Meißner Straße to the market square. At the market square, turn right
onto
Heinrich-Zille-Straße, then turn right again onto Schulstraße, Lindenallee, Bahnhofstraße, and Anbaustraße to leave the town to the south.
In Berbisdorf, keep right onto “Am Sportplatz” and ride along the castle park to Berbisdorf Castle. Finally, turn right onto Dammweg and follow Bärnsdorfer Straße/S96 to the entrance to Bärnsdorf. There, turn right onto Cunnertswalder Straße and continue along it to Jägerteich. Then take a sharp left into the woods onto Volkersdorfer Straße, continue straight ahead on Moritzburger Straße, and turn left onto Waldteichstraße before reaching the Waldteiche. Ride along the Waldteiche ponds, then turn right briefly onto Alte Dresdner Straße and immediately left again onto Volkersdorfer Straße.
Cross the S81 straight ahead, and at the entrance to Reichenberg, turn slightly right onto Niedergasse from Dresdner Straße/S179; after about 200 meters, turn left onto August-Bebel-Straße, and finally turn right onto Großenhainer Straße, Hochlandstraße, and “Am Brand.”
Here, the route continues south on the left via Lößnitzgrundstraße toward Radebeul. Take Weinbergstraße, An der Jägermühle, and Schulstraße into the city center, passing the Landesbühnen Sachsen. From there, turn right onto Meißner Straße and then immediately left onto Weintraubenstraße. From here, the route heads south back onto the Elbe Cycle Path. Follow the cycle path to the right toward Meißen to eventually reach the starting point in Brockwitz/Coswig via Altkötzschenbroda.
