The circular tour from Leipzig's city center to Lake Cospuden combines urban flair with the enjoyment of nature. From the city center, the route heads south past historic sights such as St. Thomas Church and through Clara Zetkin Park and the green alluvial forest.
Lake Cospuden, also known as "Cossi" by the people of Leipzig, was created from a former open-cast mining area and offers beautiful stretches of beach and numerous leisure activities by the water. So be sure to pack your swimming gear! The 28-kilometre route is mostly flat and leads along well-maintained cycle paths into the countryside. Along the circular route around the Cossi, numerous snack bars, bistros and restaurants at the harbor invite you to take a short break. On the return journey, the view of Leipzig's city greenery opens up once again before the tour ends in the heart of the city center - a perfect mix of city experience and relaxation by the water.

Directions
The circular tour starts in Leipzig city center at the tourist information office and leads across the market past the Old Town Hall to St. Thomas Church. Once there, turn left onto Dittrichring and cross the road at the level of the New Town Hall. Then follow the footpath and cycle path into the green area until you reach Johannapark. Follow Anton-Buckner-Allee to the famous Sachsenbrücke bridge on the Weiße Elster. Turn left before the bridge and continue past the Scheibenholz racecourse along the Elster riverbed. From Schleusiger Weg, the route leads into Leipzig's Auewald forest. Pass the wildlife park and head towards Markleeberg West on Lake Cospuden. An alpine circular route leads along the lakeshore around the entire lake. Back at the northern beach in Markleeberg West, a path leads up to Ziegeleiweg. Turn left there and take the Elster cycle path up the riverbed of the Weiße Elster to the Scheibenholz racecourse. From there, the route should look familiar. The route takes you back to Leipzig city center, where the tour started.
