Zille Bike Trail - From the Elbe to Radeburg

The Zille Bike Trail is a varied route that begins and ends south of Brockwitz/Coswig along the Elbe Bike Trail. Named after the famous artist Heinrich Zille, the route winds through picturesque landscapes and historic towns.

The starting point of this bike tour is right on the Elbe Cycle Route and is ideal for exploring the region between the Elbe, Radeburg, and Moritzburg. Right at the start, it’s worth taking a short detour on foot to the Boselspitze —part of Saxony’s smallest mountain range, the Spaargebirge. After a short climb, you’ll reach the Botanical Garden, which is home to a variety of rare plants. From a height of nearly 200 meters, you’ll enjoy an impressive view of the Elbe Valley.

As you continue through the Friedewald, you’ll pass a wolf monument commemorating a hunt led by Elector Johann Georg I in 1618.

The route continues through the forests around Moritzburg, where you can relax and unwind on wide forest trails—even by bike. The forest ponds scattered throughout invite

Just a few kilometers further on, you’ll reach Radeburg, the birthplace of Heinrich Zille. Zille, also known as “Pinselheinrich,” was a prominent illustrator and photographer who primarily captured the Berlin scene of the early 20th century. In Radeburg, you can visit his birthplace and learn more about his life and work at the local history museum.

After this cultural highlight, the route leads back toward the Elbe through diverse landscapes and past sights such as the moated castle in Berbisdorf. In Radebeul, a visit to the Hoflößnitz Winery is well worth your time. Here, you can enjoy a wine tasting amidst the vineyards and learn more about Saxon viticulture. The historic winery, with its adjacent wine museum, is a real gem and offers a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside.

At the end of the tour, you’ll arrive in Altkötzschenbroda, a lovingly restored village green with numerous restaurants, cafés, and small shops. Here you can enjoy the cozy atmosphere and wind down the tour.

The route then follows the Elbe Cycle Path back to the starting point south of Brockwitz/Coswig.
